2016 Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards

NYC 10-18-16: Social justice pioneer and Tennis legend Billie Jean King, Oscar winning actor and author F. Murray Abraham, architect (Freedom Tower) and designer Daniel Libeskind, and philanthropist Gregory Annenberg Weingarten are honored at the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation's 2016 Ellis Island Family Heritage Award, hosted by tennis great and Olympics commentator Mary Carillo.

The Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards celebrate the extraordinary lives of select American's who trace their ancestry through Ellis Island, an earlier era of arrival, and the post-Ellis Island era. The Foundation chooses a select number of these immigrants of their descendants and celebrates the major contributions they have made to our "Nation of Immigrants."

Billie Jean King & Gregory Annenberg Weingarten are honored as descendants of immigrants who arrived before Ellis Island opened; F. Murray Abraham as a descendant of immigrants who passed through Ellis Island when they came to America; and Daniel Libeskind for representing new immigration of those who came to America after Ellis Island stopped being a port of entry.
