American Heritage Girls support Presbyterian Clothes Closet | Lakelands Connector - Index-Journal

Cheyenne Clothier of Honea Path is collecting and sorting clothes for the Presbyterian Clothes Closet in order to earn her Dolly Madison Award with American Heritage Girls.

"American Heritage Girls has taught me responsibility, how to serve others, and perseverance," said Clothier. "I chose the clothes closet because I already work with the food pantry packing boxes."

To earn her award, Clothier will have to complete 40 hours of service, earn six badges, participate in a recruitment event, and participate in a board of review.

American Heritage Girls was founded by a group of parents wanting a faith-based, scout-type character development program for their daughters in 1995. American Heritage Girls across the nation participate in badge programs, service projects, leadership opportunities, and outdoor experiences, all with an emphasis on Christian values and family involvement.

American Heritage Girls is for girls aged 5 to 18. Clothier belongs to a troop that meets at the Christ Community Church in Simpsonville. Another local troop meets at the North Side Baptist Church in Greenwood. More information can be found at their website at www.americanheritagegirls.org.

The Clothes Closet is located at the Presbyterian Church in Honea Path and is open on the third Thursday of every month, from 2 to 4 p.m. If you wish to donate items, please call Mary Jo Cobb at 864-328-7007.

When asked about the benefits of American Heritage Girls, Cheyenne's mother, Yvonne Clothier of Honea Path, said "Cheyenne has benefited from American Heritage Girls by learning to serve others, working with people younger and older than herself. She has made good friends that I hope she will have for a long time."
