Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair... ~Susan Polis Shutz
Welcome back FI readers!
Floral looks are classy, fresh, chic and feminine. They were a big hit as recently as 2010 and fast forward to 2015, this vintage /grandma inspired trend is still enjoying a moment in the fashion spotlight, a definite proof that everything comes back eventually. Shout out to all the hoarders in the house, hehe.
They are as lovely as they are refreshing. From high end designers to the lower end brands, flower power made it’s case along side ginghams at fashion weeks. Have a look at this Valentino (here) or at Chanel (here) and (here). You’d agree that these looks are phenomenal. From gowns (here) and (here) to separates like this gorgeous Alice and Olivia skirt (here) to lingerie (here), bathing suit (here) hair accessories (here), and shoes (here), fashion is in full bloom.
Much as flowers have always fascinated me because I’m in awe of nature and all its beauty, I am not a huge fan of floral clothing. But when a good friend of mine wore a floral print dress to a baptism last Sunday it looked so cute, screamed high summer and inspired me to go digging for one of the only two floral pieces in my closet and voila! A very casual yet chic everyday look. Florals are synonymous with Spring. The last time I wore this was over Easter and here I am wearing it again in the final full month of Summer. They are so fabulous and depending on the colors they are set on, subdued darks or cheerful lights, will take you right into Fall and beyond.
So what do you have blooming in your garden? Cute little designs or bold in your face patterns? How are you serving them? I served this gorgeous floral blazer as a main dish over a monochrome white look with a side dish of a 3D floral necklace. The appetizer was a blue cross body bag and blue pumps made for really great dessert.
If you’re like me then you're not a huge fan of this trend. For fear of looking like wall paper maybe? Then don’t go all hot and heavy / overboard with this. Forget fast and furious, and get your feet wet like I did by pairing them with solids. A floral full midi skirt paired with a solid top. A floral dress with a solid color blazer is such a girly and chic look and so is a floral skirt with a camisole and a denim crop vest. Floral shorts with a lace top, oh so dainty! Still not your cup of tea? How about a bag, or even just a hint of floral in the form of a patch pocket or heels?
Who are you taking your floral style cues from? Who is your sartorial muse for the floral trend? Will your garden keep blooming well into Fall, creating a cheery contrast to the warm Autumnal hues or will it wilt, tumble down and be done at the end of the season? I’d love to hear all about it, do spill please if you may.
