The best-selling jeans that helped Levi's go public for a second time - Business Insider Posted: 29 Mar 2019 12:16 PM PDT ![]() Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. At the end of March, Levi Strauss & Co. officially became a publicly traded company. Though the 165-year-old, San Francisco-based company first went public in 1971, the Strauss family reclaimed ownership and took it private again in 1985. Now, it's ready for its second go-around, and on the day of its IPO, the NYSE even relaxed its no-blue-jeans policy for the momentous occasion. The sea of denim jackets and jeans on the trading floor was a perfect representation of Levi's as a brand — a symbol for hard work that has its roots among gold miners, cowboys, and railroad workers, but also something you can pull out of the closet knowing it will be casual, easy to wear, and universally embraced. Closing the day with a stock price of $22.41, putting the jeans company at a valuation of $8.6 billion, Levi's is moving forward as a public company with bigger aspirations. While its men's jeans business continues to drive the bulk of its sales, it also wants to expand partnerships, introduce new products, and lean into tops and women's fashion. If you look past its iconic 501s, you'll see that you can explore a lot more from Levi's, including outerwear, dresses, and accessories like belts. Special collections like Vintage Clothing and Made & Crafted feature premium materials and premium prices, while retailer-exclusive lines with Walmart and Target are meant to attract more value-focused customers. At the design and production level, sustainability and responsible production are increasingly important values to the company (and to shoppers at large). Levi's is using more than 20 water-saving finish techniques, which it calls Water With one foot in its past and the knowledge that it will always able to call itself the maker of the world's first blue jean, Levi's is also exploring new ways to stay relevant in the clothing world. Below, you can shop the comfortable, well-fitting denim styles that it's most known for, alongside the newer styles that hint at its evolution. Mom Jeans. bring DIY concert experience to Westcott Theater Sunday - syracuse.com Posted: 29 Mar 2019 12:01 PM PDT The last time Mom Jeans. played in Syracuse, people packed in Spark Contemporary Art Space's small, stageless concert room and moshed pretty hard. It was July of 2017. "That show was absolutely ridiculous," said Eric Butler, Mom Jeans.'s vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. "There was like 200 people there." Indie emo outfit Mom Jeans. will stop at The Westcott Theater on Sunday, March 31 during their spring tour. Joined by Mover Shaker, Prince Daddy & The Hyena and Closure, the band is excited to get everyone dancing and having a good time. If their 2017 show is any indication, the upcoming show will be pretty great. Mom Jeans. started in 2014 in Berkeley, Calif., and two years later, released their debut album, "Best Buds," which put them on the map for rock music fans nationally. This summer, they released their second LP, "Puppy Love." While they've grown out of the DIY house show venue – Butler said too many people trying to cram into a basement led to security issues, bathroom shortages and craziness that made playing house shows less than ideal – they've moved to 300-capacity venues like The Westcott Theater that gives both fans and the band a smoother, more enjoyable concert experience. But the band still works as a DIY operation. Bart Starr, who joined the band for "Puppy Love," booked all the shows on this tour himself instead of using a booking agent. They threw the whole thing together three months ahead of schedule, an unusually short lead time for booking shows. "The vibe is pretty much the same these days," Butler said. "It's always really hot, really sweaty, lots of jumping, lots of dancing, lots of screaming. Which is cool, I want people to have fun and enjoy the music." Mom Jeans. has sold out all but six venues on their 25-stop national tour. Tickets are available for the Westcott show, which can be purchased here.
